Time: After being in
the industry for ten years JoAnne, being the advocate for healthy hair she
is, found it very frustrating and nearly impossible to find products that
even remotely considered the health of the hair. A lot of times, “...we as
consumers consider the “style” rather than the affect certain styles or
products will have on our hair.”
“I feel it is the responsibility
of Cosmetologists to be chemically knowledgeable and health conscious,”
says JoAnne. She goes on to say that it is very easy to fall into the
style or trend of things and sometimes lose focus of natural beauty.
Therefore, for the past five
years Joanne has been working diligently with a chemist developing a hair
care system that encompasses a wide-range client base. This system will
benefit the health of the hair immediately!
It supports Joanne’s theory, if
hair is in good health, it will look good. Joanne has also composed a
curriculum, based upon her theory and often teaches basic hair care
classes. These classes are available at the salon and in several other
settings such as, local Beauty Pageant Contestant Preparations, church
groups, nursing homes – hospital in-services, beauty schools and the
foster-care system.
The industry for the past few
years has had a major change and the trend of “free-moving” hair is very
popular. Oprah Winfrey has spoken freely about African-American women and
that we don’t have to have “cemented-hair anymore.” With education,
we as a people do not have to be identified by our hairstyles.
